Unique adoption: older sister brings home 16-year-old brother

Many residents of Pulaski, Arkansas, would agree that adoption is one of the blessings of the modern legal system. It helps couples who wish to bring home a child who is desperately in need of a family. In a way, adoption enables two broken puzzle pieces to come together as a whole.

What better example can there be of the puzzle pieces fitting together than the recent story of a young woman from Minnesota who adopted her younger brother. The siblings were taken away from their parents by Child Protective Services 13 years ago because of negligent, abusive parents. The two siblings, however, stayed in touch and became each other’s closest confidantes. Now an adult, the older sister finally completed the required process to adopt her 16-year-old brother.

During the interim years, the brother and the sister had to endure a lot of challenges to stay in touch. The brother’s foster family did not want his sister to see her brother because they felt that the relationship between the brother and sister impeded his becoming a part of their family. However, they finally gave up their efforts to keep the two siblings apart in the face of the sister’s determination to reunite with her brother. Once the entire adoption process is completed, the older sister plans to provide her brother with many of the things she did not have growing up in a foster home.

Like many worthwhile things, adoption also comes with its complications. In a case like adoption, which by its very nature seems to be complicated, a person may need to rely on a trusted legal professional who is well acquainted with Arkansas family law to help them to obtain the family they desire and deserve.
